February 2013 Julep Maven Preview

January 20th time! You know what that means.... it's Julep Sneak Peek (also I'm officially a year older).  My parent's anniversary is the day before mine, so my present to them is that I didn't grow up to be a total screw-up. Every year my mom would write this long heartfelt birthday card, and every year I tear up! I'm pretty sappy when it comes to sentimental things.

Moving on, I've stopped doing Sneak Preview post just because every one is doing them and I don't really have anything to add to the blogosphere than what has already been said. This post is slightly different because I want to remind everyone that my Birthday Giveaway is still happening and the prize is finally be revealed!! I'm going to giveaway all the products featured as a thank you for all the people who purchased through my referral link in the past. Also, Julep Golden Box only feature 5 polish, as oppose to 11 polishes in the upgrade I'm giving away. But the Golden Box also has a "stylish product" and it's also much rarer to win!

So this month's theme is "Red Carpet Ready Colour", a tribute to leading ladies of the past and present. In addition to the 11 nail polish, they also added their much anticipated Freedom Top Coat and an Oxygen Nail Treatment. So Freedom Top Coat allows your nails to be dried and ready in a mere 5 minutes! I believe the nail treatment is a nail strengthener, which is something I definitely need!

If you're new to the whole Julep Maven program, it's essentially a nail polish/Julep branded product subscription service. The regular fee is $19.99, but you can try it out for $0.01. Simply complete the style quiz and type in the promo code JULEPVIP to reduce your price to a penny! Ready to check out the Maven program? I would love if you used my cousin's referral link to sign up!

Check out the Glamour Nail wardrobe. Instead of $30, it's an extra $35 to upgrade the box. So if you need to pay for the box, it is $55. It also cost 5500 jules instead of 5000! I think it's well worth it because this is one of the highest value wardrobe box I've seen! It's usually around $175+, but this is a $252 value set! So don't you want to enter now?! Click HERE if you do!

Take a closer look at the colours after the jump!

Matte Nail Art with Born Pretty BK Super Matte Surface Oil

*** Enter my Birthday Giveaway for the ENTIRE February Julep Maven 2013 Collection. Click HERE for more details **

A while back Born Pretty Store sent me a matte polish to review. I totally put this in the back burner until now. But anyways, last night I found some time to play around this super matte polish. This BK Super Matte Surface Oil is $4.36 for one, but when you buy more the price lowers. So if you have 10 friends who are interested in getting a matte polish, you each would pay $3.88! This is actually a great price for a matte top coat. I've seen prices that ranges for $8 to $15! So if you're looking for a inexpensive matte polish, this is a great alternative. On top of that, you can get 10% off using the code: NVL91

What I like about Matte Top coat versus Matte Color polish is the flexibility. You can turn any polishes that you own matte. I love the effect of matte polish, it makes my nail art look like stickers! A lot of matte top coats have a thicker consistency, and this one is no different.  You want to apply a thicker layer and spread the polish in light strokes to avoid nicks and brush strokes marks.

I'm pretty sure "surface" is spelt wrong

For more matte nail art idea, read on after the jump.

Zoey Deschanel's Film Strip Nail Art

Who watched Golden Globes on Sunday? I certainly did! Of course Zoey Deschanel did not disappoint with a super cute awards night manicure. She did tuxedo nails at last year's Golden Globes that became all the rage, as well as Retro TV nails at the Emmy's. This year she brought us film strip manicure! Her nail art is pretty on trend, since it is a type of "puzzle nail" that is increasingly popular. Unlike a lot of puzzle nail art out there, it is extremely easy to do. But it is also extremely easy and fun to do!

This is the picture Zoey instagramed to her fans. She wore this nail art with her gorgeous red Oscar de la Renta dress! Want this cute manicure on your nails, check out the easy to follow tutorial after the jump!

Pug Nails

A lot of times, I like to have fun with my nail art and do something very unexpected and unusual. This nail art was inspired by my friend Amy's new baby pug! She recently purchased the cutest little pug and when she brought it home with her, my friends and I bombarded her for a visit. I was never a huge pug fan since I like my dogs fluffy and white. But when I saw her little puppy pug, I instantly fell in love. I want a puppy so bad, but I feel like I'm not responsible enough to take care of it yet.

Ready for epic cuteness, keep reading after the jump! You've been warned. Prepare to squeal because the pictures are going to be cute!

*** Enter my Birthday Giveaway for the ENTIRE February Julep Maven Collection. Click HERE for more details **

One week into January and I already got my January Julep Maven box! I love the speediness of their delivery, especially across the border. For the next couple months, I will be getting the full collection. If you haven't heard, I'm also giving away a full collection as well!
Matte and Glossy Design using January Brights

Anyways, this month's collection is called The Resort Collection Nail Wardrobe. The theme is Escape & Unwind, which is exactly what I want to do right at this moment. I want to escape this cold Canadian Winter and be somewhere warm and relaxing. I like how the shredded paper resemble hay from tiki huts! Opening this box really gave me an immediate taste of summer for a brief millisecond.

Here are my new additions to my Julep Collection! Lots of bright goodies. Not exactly the colours you would wear during Winter, but definitely great for the summer! This month's quote is "Laughter is an instant vacation" by Milton Berle who is an comedian and actor from back in the day.

Multi-Colored Ombre Ruffle Nails

Happy New Year Everyone! How were everyone's holidays? I hoped that Santa treated you all very well! As my first nail art of the new year, I bring you ruffle nails. I was just looking at my old posts and I was especially proud of my quilted nails, so I wanted to create another texture nails. Ruffles immediately came to my mind. I googled other nail artist's ruffle nail art and realized a lot of them were one dimensional scallop designs. For me, I wanted to be true to the texture and make it look like actual ruffles! I think I succeeded in that aspect. What do you think?

I made it a multi-colored ombre nail just because I figured it would look nice. My favorite is the blue nail! Like most of my nail art in this blog, everything is my first attempt. About 90% of the time, it turns out the way I want it. Thank goodness! Anyways, picture tutorial after the jump.
