Loose Button Seasonal Luxe Box: Winter 2012 Review

8 comments :
Yay! My Luxe box finally arrived, along with my shipping notification, so I was definitely not expecting it. It was definitely a nice surprise to see this package show up at my building. Again, it came in a sleek white box embellished by a gold loose button logo. But what's different about this box than the one from three months ago is the products came inside a cute little draw string pouch rather than a dinky little cloth. I ended up using the cloth to protect my desk from polish stains whenever I do my nails. I guess I found some use out of it!

Now onto the goodies!

December Julep Maven + My Polish Rack!

7 comments :
This past couple of days have be super awesome because of a few things. First, I'm writing my post on my gorgeous new iMac! I think I mentioned this a while ago, but my 6 year old macbook pro fell off my bed and the screen cracked. This happened a couple of days before the big iMac launch, so naturally I took it as a sign to upgrade. Second, my December Julep Maven box arrived and I got the whole collection! Third, since my Julep polish collection has been growing exponentially, my mom decided to build me a polish rack. Thanks momma bear!

At first I didn't think I would like the Jules program, but now that I know I can use it towards upgrades and add-ons I am so happy they made this innovative change. I used 5,000 jules to redeem this whole collection because I instantly fell in love with all the polishes when the preview was released. They also had a wide array of add-ons that were not just limited to the featured polishes and products!

I couldn't relate to these quotes more, especially the one about being grateful.  I'm so grateful for your readership, I'm so grateful for all the opportunities that were open to me because of this blog, I'm so grateful for everyone who subscribe to my blog and programs through my referral links, and I'm just super grateful for all your support! Not going to lie, I've had a couple of negative experiences since I've started this blog, but the overwhelmingly positive support from friends and readers is what keeps me writing a couple times a month! I always love reading your feedback.

Check out my new additions and my awesome polish rack!

Julep Polish Review: Catherine, Gayle, and Olivia

2 comments :
Hello ladies! I have been fortunate enough to be part of Julep VIP program and they have been so kind to send me some products to review! As you can probably tell by the fact that most of my polishes are from Julep, they are one of my favorite nail polish brand. I think Julep makes up at least 75% of my collection thanks to the Julep Maven program, as well as some blogging opportunities.

Anyways, Julep sent me three fabulous polishes, Catherine, Olivia, and Gayle. Each polish retail for $14+ on their website, US Sephora, and $17+ when you buy is from Canada Sephora. However, if you enroll in their Julep Maven nail polish subscription program, one of your perk is that you get 20% off their online store. Therefore each polish is reduced down to $11.20 or $4.99 when they have their monthly promotion! Although they are on the pricier end, they definitely host a lot of worthwhile promotions that will allow you to get more bang for your buck!

If you're interested in trying out the Julep Maven program, you can get your first box for $0.01 when you use the code PENNY or COLORS4ONE! I would love if you use my referral link: http://www.julep.com/rewardsref/index/refer/id/17010/

"Julep Nail Color is “4-free” and does not contain formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, or DBP. Our professional chip-resistant formulation is fast drying and highly pigmented. Julep nail color is a fun way to make the season’s latest shades accessible to everyone. And because we’ve tested our trend-setting toxin-free colors and products in over 100,000 manicures and pedicures in our parlors, we have a good idea of what works and what our clients love."

Christmas Nail Art #2: Nutcracker

17 comments :
For my second nail art of the Christmas Nail Art series, I chose to create a set of nutcracker nails. I find that the beauty of a nutcracker doll is in all the details that includes the face, the crown, the soldier uniform, and so on. I decided to incorporate the ever trending puzzle nail idea to create this whole-body nutcracker. So when you put the finger nails together, it's like I'm carrying around a little nutcracker figurine! I think it turned out pretty well, I hope you like it.

With a detailed nail art like this, I had to sketch the design in order to plan it out, especially with the alignment. This first set was too big, so I had to create a revised version in order to fit the entire body. I googled several images of the nutcracker as references, but this nail art is a very simplified version. When some people put their nails together like this, they do it so naturally and straight on. For me, it's super awkward. To get my finger nails to align like the picture above actually took quite a lot of effort.

This is why you plan!

There's no tutorial for this post. Simply plan out what you want to do by sketching and replicating it on your nails with colors of your choice.

Christmas Nail Art #1: Snow Globe

7 comments :
I love December! I love the holidays and I love that it's super close to my birthday! Woohoo! Anyways, I think I'm going to start a series of Christmas/Holiday inspired nail art. First up is Snow Globe! This was one of the holiday nail art I really wanted to. I was googling some snow globe nail art some of them didn't look like snow globes at all! There are a lot of amazing christmas nail art out there, so here's my version! This is first of many, so stay tuned!

An optional step is to either add a glitter top coat into the globe (not the stand) to replicate a snow when it is shaken. I didn't add that step in just because I like to maintain the details of the image. With my tutorial, feel free to be inspired by customize they way you like it.

Check out the tutorial after the jump!

One Year Blogiversary & Isabel Marant Nail Set

11 comments :
I can't believe it's been one year since I started my blog, well one year and three days. I feel like it was yesterday when I was calling one of my good friend Katrina and telling her on a whim that I was going to start a nail art blog. She immediately said "do it". I'm kind of surprised and thrilled at the number of followers and viewers that I have on all my social media channels. So thank you so much for constantly visting my blog, commenting, and sharing!

I've received so much support and feedback from friends and family. I always find it so weird when my guy friends compliment me about this website, but nonetheless at least I know it's reaching beyond the targeted female readers. Anyways, my blog has provided me with so many fun opportunities and taught me a lot as well. I think after a year of showcasing my nail art, the next logical step is to make it available to my readers! I decided to use the online shop Big Cartel just because it allows buyers to pay through paypal or by credit card. I also like that it doesn't take any portion of the sale for first time online shop owner like myself. However, with a basic membership you only get basic function, which is something I am alright with for now. From surveying a couple people they have helped come up with a pricing of $30 to $50 depending on the complexity. If you are interested in a customized set, simply contact me (nailartcouture@gmail.com) for a quotation!

Born Pretty Store: Nail Tip Review

A couple weeks ago, I was contacted by Born Pretty Store to review some of the amazing beauty and nail art products that are available in their shop. Starting an online shop has been on the back of my mind for a while and I was really encouraged by my friends and co-worker to start it up. When the opportunity came forward, I knew I wanted to test out their nail tips! There are so many nail tips available from pointy tips to colorful tips. I chose the one that I thought looked the most natural. The one that I picked is called Natural False Nail Tip Half Tip, which comes with 500 nail tips (50 nail sets) for $5.93. Since it is shipping from China, it takes about 3 weeks or a little more for North Americans to receive their package. If you're looking to create your own nail set, this is an amazing website to stock up on nail art tools! Don't forget to use the code: NVL91 to get 10% off!
