TAG: Get to Know Me

Jamie from Beauty and the Gamer tagged me with the "Get to Know Me Tag". I didn't really want to do any tags at first, but then I realize this would be fun because I would like to get to know the people behind the blogs I love reading.

Rules are simple:
1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog
2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you plus eleven questions for the people you have tagged to answer.
3. Choose eleven people and link them in your tag.
4. Go to their page and tell them.
5. No tag backs.

11 Random facts about Me

1. My favorite sport to play is badminton. I was a mixed doubles champion in my city a couple of times and won 3rd place in Northern Ontario a couple of times as well. I wish I tried out for the university team, even though I have a feeling I wouldn't have made it, but I guess I will never know.

2. I graduated last year with a Bachelors of Technology degree, where I majored in Graphic Communications Management. It's a unique blend of graphic design, business, and print management. I also minored in Entrepreneurship & Innovations.

First Year at School, Last Year at School (for now)

3. I took a year off after school just because almost every summer I worked or took summer courses and I just needed a huge breather before I dedicate my life to my career, as well as figure out what I want to do in the future. Ideally I would like to get into Customer Service, Project Management or Print Production Management.

4. I enjoyed doing nail art ever since I got my first Konad Stamping kit when I was in grade 8. I think my skills has improved a lot since then. I started documenting my nail art in September 2009, check how much I've improved! I can say I've "ombre'd" before it became super popular! I use to call it "sponge art" or "gradient", but ombre sounds more fancy.

Nail Art from 2009 - present

5. I was born and raised in a small city, home of the Big Nickel.

6. Since I grew up in a predominately caucasian community, there were no multicultural TV channels or Chinese schools and the chinese community in town was pretty small. Aside from learning Cantonese by speaking with my parents, my parents would stock up on Cantonese Disney VHS whenever we were in Toronto. I can honestly say it helped because there are a lot of Chinese friends I grew up with who can hardly speak it or depend a lot "Chinglish" to communicate. Now instead of Cantonese Disney Movies, I stream Hong Kong TVB Dramas to increase my understanding of the language.

 7. My Chinese name is pronounced "Zhang Hue Yun", which means God's grace. My mom chose the name "Samantha" because Bewitched was one of her favorite shows back in the day. She also picked "Zinnia" as my middle name, which is a type of flower. It is pretty fitting since my grandparents owned a company that manufactured plastic flowers to art stores around the world.

8. Anything with mushroom or corn, or a combination of both will make me very happy.

9. I flush all public toilets with my foot because it grosses me out touching it with my hand.

10. I have grown to be a huge homebody and I rather host a party or get together at my place than go out clubbing. But I don't mind going out from time to time. I think I got most of the partying and clubbing out of my system during first year of university.

11. The most adventurous thing that I have ever done was gone skydiving. It was the most exhilarating feeling ever and I would do again!

Questions from Jamie from Beauty and the Gamer

1. If you were to win a million dollars, what would be the first thing you would do with that money?
Book a cruise for my family and relatives. I had such an amazing time when I went on my cruise last month, I would love to go again! I miss the food so much.

2. What place occupies the No.1 Spot on your travel list?
Japan, hands down. I love their food, I love their gadgets, I just really want to go there.

3. What is your favorite make up brand?
I think my favorite make-up brand at the moment is Benefit. I have a lot of their products and thoroughly enjoy them all.

4. Dog or Cat?
Dog, they seem a lot friendlier.

5. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Dessert?
Dessert, just because I don't always have it with every meal and when I do it's a complete treat. When I go to a buffet, I rather not eat as much throughout the meal so I can save room for dessert.

 Dessert from my Cruise! *Drool*

6. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
The ability to teleport anywhere I want. Commuting is a pain and I love traveling to different destinations! How amazing would it be to go on a mini-vacation every weekend, or have your lunch break at a tropical island. Yeah, I would love to teleport.

7. What would you say is your best feature?
I think my best feature would be my smile just because I was told that I have permanent grin smacked on my face. I smile when I talk and some of my friends have said that they don't even know when I'm angry because it looks like I'm smiling.

8. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Adults who don't have proper etiquette. I think as grown up, manners extend more than just please and thank you. For me, if someone does a huge favor for me, I find a way to pay them back right away or at least offer something in return in the future. Sometimes a gesture will do, but I just think it's annoying when it seems like people are taken advantage of.

9. Flats or heels?
I really wish I could wear heels for hours and hours, but it hurts after the first 30 minutes. For me, I choose flats. My go to flats are by Cole Haan. They are a shoe company that partnered up with Nike so their heels and flats have Nike Air technology so it's super comfortable. I have a pair of heels and two pairs of flats from Cole Haan, they are the best!

10. What is the one thing that you would NEVER leave the house without?
I would NEVER leave my house without my keys. I've gone out of my house without make-up, money, phone etc before. But I need to bring my keys or else I would get locked out of my apartment building.

11. What would you say is your worst habit?
Once I organize everything, such as my room, within a week it gets super messy again. I wish I would wash dishes right after eating and fold my clothes after I'm done wearing them. Unfortunately, it's not ingrained in me to do that so I let the dishes pile up and let my clothes collect on my chair. I really need to fix that.

  1. I love badminton too! It is my favourite sport! I am probably no where near as good as you, but I always have fun and get competitive when I play.
I think its a huge asset that you're bilingual. In today's job market, that is a huge bonus!!

  2. Thanks for the tag! I did mine too, albeit only partially following the rules, but I did it! Click Here Some of your questions were hard. I could barely remember any 90s discontinued stuff, especially since you could still sort of find some of the stuff but it's all good. I LOVE your nail art! I have a Konad set too! Though, I think I used it only once after I got it and stopped since I wasn't too good at it. The worst thing was that I got the large set so it was sort of a waste. Do you think it's still usable after a few years? Maybe i'll give it a try again. Though, i'll NEVER reach your level with nails. I don't think I have the patience. BTW, I like your keys answer. That was very smart. I would never think of that. I think it's sort of a common sense thing that people just overlook. You are such a smart cookie! =)

You know, for someone as neurotic about germs and touching my food, I have no issues with flushing public toilets with my hands, but now.... :P
