Qipao or Cheongsam Inspired Nail Art

16 comments :
Greeting from Hong Kong! I'm here to visit my family and getting some visa stuff sorted out so that I can legally work in Hong Kong if I choose to one day. Also, I got it so I don't ever have to wait in the insanely long "visitors" line when I go to Hong Kong. I'm here for about 3 weeks, so if you have any recommendations for me to check out in Hong Kong, please let me know ASAP! I feel like I'm always stuck in the same area, so I'm really looking to explore. I love unique snacks, cool shops, indoor malls, and cheap eats. Know of any good places? Please comment below!

Yesterday, I went to the Olympian City mall, which I felt like it was twice the size of Eaton Center in Toronto. When we got off the subway, we were bombarded by so many young property sales reps. Once we say no to one person, another one would come up, and another 5 more people would shove their pamphlets at us. I think there were at least 50 or more sales reps all over the area selling the same properties. There's nothing I hate more than being hard sold to something I don't need.

Anyways, once we reached the Olympian City mall, we saw that they were hosting a Qipao exhibit. If you're unfamiliar with the terms Qipao (旗袍) or Cheongsam (長衫), it just means Traditional Chinese Dress. I've never been a fan of these dresses just because my mom would always force me to wear it on Chinese New Year and I hated how it looked on me. Although I still hate how it looks on me, I have a new appreciation for it. The exhibit showed the history of the Qipao designs, which I thoroughly enjoyed. My favorite part would have to be the showcase of the modern twist of the traditional Chinese dress. If you're in the area, the exhibit ends June 10th!

After the exhibit, I knew this was going to be my next inspired nail art! I didn't bring too many colors with me to Hong Kong, so it's not as colorful as it could be. Thank goodness, Julep polishes are easy to travel with so I had a decent variety of colors to travel with!

I showed my finished nails to my Grandma and all she had to say was "You can't make a living of that. Nail art might be popular in North America, but it isn't popular in Hong Kong". I wasn't fishing for compliments, just something to converse over to fill the awkward silence. I knew I wouldn't get any positive feedback out of her since she never gives any, to me anyways. Oh well, I kind of expected that! Anyways, I hope YOU like my Qipao/Cheongsam nail art!

Check out some pictures I took of the exhibit!

May Topbox Review

8 comments :
What kind of beauty subscriber are you? Are you a spoiler or a surpriser? Do you scour around the internet to find the latest items in the current month's beauty box or do you wait until your beauty box arrives to see what's inside. Well, for me I'm a spoiler! It helps me develop expectations. But because of these expectations, I get more disappointed than usual when the expectations are not met.

If you read my previous topbox post, I mentioned that I unsubscribed so I didn't expect to receive this month's box. So after finding out that I would be receiving the may topbox and knowing what I will get, I was extremely excited! I'm so glad I didn't miss out on this box. I am very thankful that I didn't feel gypped because I didn't do the customization survey. Anyways, I have a feeling I'm going to regret unsubscribing.

May Panty by Post

11 comments :
I got two packages today, so I hope to keep both these posts short to reveal to you what I got.

When I went to my mail box today, I saw a cute floral package waiting for me. I got my second Panty by Post! The first was when I received it with my April Loose Button Luxe Box. Panty by Post sent me a promo code for $10 for a single panty and I jumped on that deal right away! The original price for panty by post is $30 for one month, and it continues to reduce depending on what your subscription length. This service is available worldwide!! I believe they also have a head quarter in Russia as well! Hopefully the promo code: SAMPLEPANTY still works, so if you're interested, head on over to their website and sign up! For more information check out my post on Panty by Post.

*If you buy a subscription because you read my post, please email me your full name so I can tell Panty by Post that I referred you! Thank you!*

I find it very odd sharing my panty mail, but since I love talking about all type of beauty subscription services, I guess it's almost fitting. Anyways, enjoy my post and if you have received panties from this service before, let me know what you think!

Really cute info cards about their feature brands

TAG: Get to Know Me

8 comments :

Jamie from Beauty and the Gamer tagged me with the "Get to Know Me Tag". I didn't really want to do any tags at first, but then I realize this would be fun because I would like to get to know the people behind the blogs I love reading.

Rules are simple:
1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog
2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you plus eleven questions for the people you have tagged to answer.
3. Choose eleven people and link them in your tag.
4. Go to their page and tell them.
5. No tag backs.

May Julep Maven Review (2 Boxes!)

6 comments :
I received my May Julep Maven box last week and my mom received her box two days ago. Since I'm back in my hometown, I can show you the two boxes that we have! I settled for It Girl and I wanted my mom to get Bombshell, but she said she rather get the items from the Classic with the Twist box. Since it's the month of mother's day, I switched to what she wanted because I'm a good daughter!

If you're interested in subscribing to Julep Maven and want to learn a little bit more, I recommend that you  read my box comparison in the "BEAUTY BOX" tab. It has all the details before you decide to subscribe. But if you are sure that Julep is the subscription service for you, I would be so appreciative if you could purchase through my referral link (http://julep.com/?r=19023025). Thank you in advance!

There are couple of Penny deals floating around, so the codes are: PENNY or COLORS4ONE or SHAREONMAY. So if one doesn't work, give the other ones a try. Please let me if you do sign up through my link, so I can thank you! For every 2 people, I receive free month! If you do buy it, make sure to share your referral link and penny code to your friends so you can earn free boxes as well!

Classic with a Twist and It Girl

Not a lot of people mention this, but this is important to know too!
Remember: In order to cancel, you need to call Julep (877.651.3292). Do so before the 27th of the month or you will be charged the subscription fee. Their company is located in Seattle (9am-5pm PST), so gear your time accordingly.

Blumarine Spring 2012 Inspired Floral Nail Art

14 comments :
I'm back with another fashion inspired nail art or Gossip Girl Nails. This time it is from Blumarine's Spring 2012 collection and yes, it was also a dress worn by Blair Waldorf. You can spot it on season 5 episode "Despicable B". I chose this design just because A) Orange seems to be the color of the year and B) It is a great Spring and Summer nail design. So if you're looking for some spring/summer nail art to do, try this look out! I love how the vibrant colors are and it definitely stood out to me when I was watching Gossip Girl. Oh, and if you're curious, I believe the dress is called "Blumarine Orange Floral dress".

Check out my other Gossip Girl nail art: CLICK HERE

I did this nail art when my friend, Pauline (aka. my birthday buddy), and I decided to have a impromptu nail art party. Initially, I wanted to do this pastel lace design inspired by a BCBG dress, but didn't have the colors for it. When I attempted anyways, it looked terrible. Luckily I remembered I wanted to do this Blumarine design and Pauline happened to have the orange and green polishes that I needed! Shout out to Maja, who also joined us!

Mosaic Tiled Nail Art

4 comments :
So I have some pretty exciting new and perhaps by some odd chance, you might just encounter it sometimes this week! Any guesses? My recent posts are pretty good indicator as to what company it involves and since I'm not doing any "couture-inspired", that should give you a good tip as to what I'm doing!

Mosaic Tiles Inspired

This is a very easy nail art, but what you need is a steady hand. When it comes to creating "somewhat" straight horizontal lines, roll your nail and let your nail art glide across. Vertical lines are a little easier to do. If you're curious, I like to use nail art brush that comes with nail art polishes. They were given to me as gift, so I never found a need to go out and buy nail art brushes.

Dotted Gradient Nail Art

15 comments :
If you've been to my blog before, you probably noticed a few additional tabs at the top. One of them is "Request a Design". So if you want to submit a nail art challenge to me, there's a mini form for you to fill out. If your choice is chosen, I will definitely provide a link to your blog or social media channels as a way to credit you! Anyways, I hope you submit a theme or specific request, I'm definitely up for a challenge. Here are past reader's request: The Avengers and Russian Nesting Dolls. I wonder what my next reader's request will be!

I recently downloaded this app called "SnapGuide" and basically it is just a place for people to share their photo/video tutorials that range from cooking, nail art, and other DIY. I wanted to submit a guide for fun just to test it out so I decided to create a very simple tutorial. Click HERE, for a step by step picture guide on how I completed this nail art.

I was inspired by nail decals, but I feel like my nail art is good enough so I really don't need to buy it. Anyways, definitely download "SnapGuide".

Panty By Post Deal

6 comments :
As a lot of you know, Loose Button featured Vancouver-based Panty by Post, which is a monthly subscription to beautiful Parisian Panties. I believe this service is available worldwide! I received mine recently and I love it! It's silky, comfortable, and super cute! I read on Youtube a comment made by Panty by Post saying that the brand that was featured in the Luxe Box is called "Change", but the pretty lacy froufrou ones are from "Blush".

If you read about them and you didn't get one in your Luxe Box, well you're in luck! They have a new customer special where you get one single panty for $10 (including tax and shipping). Normally you are expected to pay $30 for one month, and the price gets lower depending if it's quarterly or yearly subscription. Also I would like to mention that they have both men's and women's style!

If you're interested in purchasing one, use the code: SAMPLEPANTY

"If you're a NEW CUSTOMER, select the package 1 Single Panty on our shop page and get it for $10 TOTAL (NO TAX and NO SHIPPING FEE). Enter the code: samplepanty in the coupon field at checkout." - Panty by Post

They don't have a referral link, but you're suppose to email them if your referred friends make a SUBSCRIPTION purchase and you get a "free gift". It's kind of vague, but I'm interested in knowing what it is.

If you do subscribe to this service after reading my post, I would be so appreciative if you email me or comment below with your full name and I'll pass it along to Panty by Post.

April Luxe Box by Loose Button Review

13 comments :
Yay! Today my Panty by Post finally arrived! I'm super stoked because it's the one thing I looked forward to in this month's lackluster box. But I guess one single panty made it all worth it. Check out my post to see what kind I got!

When I picked up the information card, I noticed that it felt a little different. Loose Button decided to print on an uncoated paper stock. I guess the paper is more environmentally friendly since it doesn't have to go through the chemical process of coating the paper. I guess it is their way to reduce their carbon footprint. Anyways, just using the knowledge I paid for in University and applying it to real life.

April is Daffodil Month. The month to join the fight against cancer and support those living with it. This month, we partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society to help make a contribution on behalf of the Loose Button community. Whether it is through the daffodil pin in your Luxe Box, or a product donation from you, we wanted to make sure we could make an impact. Thank you for your contribution and we hope you enjoy your April Luxe Box!
  • This is the pin that Loose Button gave us in support for the Canadian Cancer Society. I chose not to donate my product just because I am planning on donating my unused items already. I'm still waiting for a response back from the organization I contacted about the donation. Did you donate your item? What item do you think Loose Button donated of yours?

April Glossybox Review

1 comment :
Happy May everyone!

I received my April Glossybox and Loose Button Luxe Box yesterday, which was just in time before the month ended. I am holding off on my Luxe Box review just because they are shipping my Panty that I requested during the First in Line program from the Panty by Post facilities due to hygienic reason. I was really looking forward to that! Let's just say that if it wasn't for the Panty, the rest of the products would be somewhat disappointing. As for my Glossybox, I was thrilled by the weight of the box! I knew it would be a good box before I even open it!
