December Glymm Box Review

I hope everyone had an amazing christmas and got everything they wanted! I got my Glymm box a couple days ago so I finally found some time to review the products. This month I got two Glymm boxes: one that I purchased and one that I won through stylishandliterate's twitter giveaway contest. I didn't expect to win, that's why I ended up with two. Anyways I gave one of them to my friend as a early Christmas present and kept one for myself. So in her box, she received an Annabelle Mascara, Lise Watier Flash Lift Radiance, Ahava Mineral Hand Cream, YSL Parisienne Fragrance, and Caudalie Eye Cream. Don't worry, I didn't ruin her surprise since she already opened it a couple days ago. As for what I got, it will be revealed to you below.

I'm kind of surprised that in both boxes, my friend and I didn't get an information card. I like reading about the products that are featured and how much the full sizes are. That way I know the monetary value of the box just for the sake of knowing. I guess I have to Google the description and prices for this box. Also, I was expecting the box to be more holiday themed but the only thing that is remotely festive are the colors of the jelly beans. I think the red one is cherry, and I want to say the white one is... cream soda. Glymm should put that in their information card, I'm not very good at guessing flavors. Clearly my palate isn't sharp enough! Also, I love their bright pink box and the delicacy of their logo. Being such a packaging and graphics girl, they get bonus points for that.

COUP D'ECLAT: Lifting Ampoule
Lifting ampoule is ideal to obtain a radiant complexion and to improve wearability of your makeup. In just a few minutea, the skin becomes smoother and firmer. It appears instantly younger, refreshed and relaxed.
Full Size: $15.00 (3 vials) or $40.00 (12 vials)
Sample Value: $5.00
  • Wow what does this product remind you of... Lise Watier Flash Lift Radiance! I'm so tired of getting these. I'm sure it will give me the same effect as the Lise Watier vial that I got from my Luxe Box. I felt a little moisturized but that was pretty much it. I don't exactly have high hopes for this product, but I'll try it out anyways.

PRINCIPESSA BEAUTY: Dolce Dream Whipped Body Lotion
For sexy, silky skin, pamper yourself with this deliciously-scented whipped cream that softens and smoothes. Lavish all over your birthday suit and be prepared to glow like the goddess you are.
Full Size: $28.00 (355 ml)
Sample Value: $4.73 (60 ml)
  • Deliciously-scented indeed! It has Aloe Vera, Carrot, Peach, and Cucumber extract. Together the scent actually reminds me of baby wipes. Weird association, but honestly it does. The lotion has the texture and look of freshly whipped cream. It's super light and very moisturizing.

BURT'S BEES: Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion
Enriched with skin softening Milk and naturally nourishing Honey, this new & improved body lotion is formulated with botanical moisturizer Coconut and Grape Seed oils and Vitamin E. Naturally Nourishing Body Lotion leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and healthy, naturally.
Full Size: $7.00 (6 oz.)
Sample Value: $0.58 (0.5 oz)
  • Why are there so many body lotion samples in this month's box? I honestly don't think that two little sample packet is considered "deluxe sized". Each packet was only good for one use when you apply it all over your body, or it can last you a little longer if you apply it more sparingly. Anyways the scent is suppose to be milk and honey, but it definitely doesn't smell like it. I am definitely not a fan of the scent and I really don't consider Burt's Bee to be a luxurious brand, so I'm not too thrilled that it's featured in my Glymm box.

ANNABELLE STUDIO: Smudge Paint in Muddy
Which look will you wear today? Create the puurrrfect cat eye look by applying in a thin line. Create a vampy glam look by smudging all over the eyelid. Blend your favorite shades together for a custom look.
Full Size: $11.00 (2 g)
Sample Value: $11.00 (2 g)
  • So this is a potted gel-cream with a built in brush that can be used as an eyeliner and eyeshadow. I'm kind of indifferent about the product just because I don't find it does the job that I want it to. I find this product works better as an eyeshadow rather than a liner just because it is so creamy. Every time I apply it as an eyeliner it smudges into eyeshadow just because I have such a small eye crease. I guess this product just isn't for me.
Total Value of this Box: $21.00+

All in all, I wasn't thrilled by both of the Glymm boxes that I received this month. I think I'm more disappointed that most of the samples are drug store products and I was hoping for something more high-end or from a brand I never really heard of. I also feel like that a couple of the products have been featured in past Glymm boxes, which take some excitement factor away such as the Smudge Paint and Principessa lotion. Whenever these companies put in products that were featured in past boxes into their subscriber's first box, I call it the "newbie special". I know Loose Button has done it and now Glymm. I don't really like it when that happens, but I think that's their way of getting rid of overstocked samples. From my opinion that I have formed from this month's box, I know I'm not going to continue my subscription.

As for battle of the subscription boxes: December edition, Topbox won this round. To check out my Luxe Box by Loose Button review, please click here and for my Topbox review, check it out here. If you got the same stuff or something different, I would love to know what you got! Please share your thoughts and opinions in the comment section, I like reading them.

In other news, UK-based GlossyBox is coming to Canada. You can check out their website to sign up for their VIP line when the service goes live. I'm definitely interested in signing up!

  1. Thank you for the Glossybox link :)

  2. Got my first box and really wasn't impressed. Two handcreams (one of which had a broken top and leaked).

    YSL perfume (deluxe size sample)

Lip gloss (the safety seal had been broken and I'm not going to risk it).

I can't log into my account and the password they sent me doesn't work.

    NOT impressed at all.

  3. Yikes! From that experience, are you re-subscribing. I wasn't too impressed either.

  4. I'll give January a chance. And I'm calling them to get them to fix the password issue. I want to use that $10giftcard but only if I can get the glymmpoints

  5. @Anonymous - FYI, I had the same experience with my Sula lip gloss. I contacted them, and they sent me a new one in my January box.

I agree that the products in the more recent boxes haven't been as great. I'm hoping that with the addition of Glossybox, Glymm will need to step things up or risk losing customers. People work hard for their money, and are going to be selective about where they spend it, even if it is only $10.

I'll be sticking it out for a while longer. I must admit that I find it hard to resist their little pink boxes. I have however signed up for both the Luxe box and Glossybox, and I'm on the ridiculously long wait list for Topbox. I'd like to be able to compare the different boxes and make an, um, "educated" decision. :)
